Incendiary Brewing Company was founded by Winston-Salem locals Brandon Branscome and John Bacon, who both graduated from North Forsyth High School and earned business degrees from UNCG. Their brewing journey started in 1997 with a failed attempt at a brown ale during college. Back then, limited information on homebrewing led them to put the idea on hold. Over the years, they improved their skills as more resources became available. In 2013, as neighbors, they rekindled their passion for brewing, leading to regular weekend sessions and success in homebrew competitions. Their achievements include top finishes in American IPA, Wood Aged Beer, and Spiced Beer categories, with their most notable win being first place in the IPA category at the 2016 Masters Championship of Amateur Brewing, out of about 450 entries. Inspired by their success and encouragement from friends and family, they decided to open Incendiary Brewing Company, which launched on Labor Day weekend 2018. The brewery quickly gained a reputation for its IPAs, stouts, and distinctive outdoor space, The Coalpit. Starting in 2021, they plan to introduce a new summer concert series called Coalpit Live.
